Position Overview
The Clerk of Works will be responsible for ensuring that construction and infrastructure projects are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements. The role involves acting as the university’s on-site representative, ensuring that contractors deliver work that meets required standards, timelines, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications Required
- National Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Certification as a Clerk of Works is an added advantage
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in construction supervision or site inspection
- Experience working on institutional or large infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of Zimbabwean construction standards and regulations
Skills & Competencies
- Liaise with consultants (architects, engineers, quantity surveyors) and contractors
- Witness testing of materials and installations where required
- Ensure proper use of materials and prevent wastage or misuse
- Assist in handover inspections and snagging processes
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor construction works on-site to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities
- Inspect materials and workmanship to ensure quality standards are met
- Ensure adherence to Zimbabwe building regulations and university standards
- Keep detailed site records, including daily logs, progress reports, and incident reports
- Identify defects, non-compliance issues, and deviations from specifications, and report them promptly
- Verify work completed for certification and payment purposes
- Attend site meetings and provide technical input and updates
- Ensure contractors comply with Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) requirements on site
- Monitor project timelines and flag delays or risks to project completion
