MECHANICAL ENGINEER (1 POST)

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and infrastructure across the university. This includes HVAC systems, water reticulation, pumping systems, workshop equipment and other mechanical installations.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers;
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience;
  • Experience in facilities management or institutional environments is an added advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Prepare technical reports, maintenance schedules, and engineering documentation.
  • Participate in planning, budgeting and execution or infrastructure projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, install, and maintain mechanical systems with the university (HVAC, plumbing pumping systems, and equipment)
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for mechanical infrastructure;
  • Ensure all mechanical systems operate efficiently, safely, and reliably;
  • Supervise artisans, technicians and contractors on maintenance and project works;
  • Inspect and assess mechanical installations to ensure compliance with specifications and standards;
  • Prepare technical reports, maintenance schedules, and engineering documentation.
  • Participate in planning, budgeting and execution or infrastructure projects;
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and implement corrective actions;
  • Ensure compliance with Zimbabwean engineering regulations and standards.
