PROJECTS MANAGER (1 POST)

Position Overview

The Projects Manager will serve as the central point of coordination between various internal departments, external contractors, consultants, and stakeholders. He/she will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of major capital works projects and strategic institutional projects at the National University of Science and Technology.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Quantity surveying, Construction Management or Architecture.
  • Master's Degree in Construction Project Management or a Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management or PMP, PRINCE2.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in managing large-scale, complex building construction and infrastructure projects, preferably within the public sector or an educational institution

Skills & Competencies

  • Ensuring all project deliverables, particularly construction works, comply with local regulations.
  • Preparing and presenting regular progress reports, financial updates, and risk assessments to senior management and relevant committees.
  • Overseeing the formal handover, commissioning, and final documentation of completed projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing comprehensive project plans, including detailed scopes of work, resource requirements, budgets, and timelines, in line with NUST's strategic objectives.
  • Leading and managing project teams, contractors, and consultants, ensuring effective communication and coordination of activities to meet project milestones.
  • Monitoring project budgets, approve expenditures, and manage contract variations to prevent cost overruns and ensure financial accountability.
  • Identifying potential project risks (e.g., delays, quality issues, budgetary constraints) and developing proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Ensuring all project deliverables, particularly construction works, comply with local regulations.
  • Preparing and presenting regular progress reports, financial updates, and risk assessments to senior management and relevant committees.
  • Overseeing the formal handover, commissioning, and final documentation of completed projects.
