SUB LIBRARIAN – TECHNICAL SERVICES

Position Overview
Reporting to the Deputy Librarian, the Sub-Librarian will play a key leadership role in the technical services department of the University Library.
Qualifications Required
An MSc Degree in Library and Information Science plus three (3) years post qualification experience, OR a BSc Degree and a Post Graduate qualification in Library and Information Science plus five (5) years post qualification experience,
Skills & Competencies
• Compiling quarterly, annual, monitoring and evaluation reports
Key Responsibilities
• Overseeing collection development, processing and management of all library materials
• Reviewing acquisitions, cataloguing and classification policies to keep abreast with changes in user needs and professional developments
• Developing procedures and workflow routines which can be used to accomplish objectives and improve efficiency of bibliographic control
• Providing leadership and supervision in establishing mission and goal statements of each unit in the section to establish short and long term goals
• Participating in the recruitment of Junior Staff in the Library by sitting in selection boards, monitoring and evaluating staff performance in the section.
• Supervising weeding, stock take and bindery of library materials
• Secretary to the Library committee (Rotational)
• Participating in outreach programs and contributing to development of the profession
• Compiling quarterly, annual, monitoring and evaluation reports
• Any other duties as assigned by the Librarian.
