Position Overview

The Dean is the chief academic, administrative and financial officer of the Faculty, and will be responsible for leadership in the following functions: • Administration, management and compliance to academic ordinances and regulations. • access to teaching and learning, • research and scholarship, • community outreach and consultancy services, • innovation and technology development, • income generation and financial management, • deliver as per the targets of the NUST Strategic Plan Outputs and Outcomes annually, • conduct performance evaluations for staff in the Faculty, • engage departmental heads to develop new degree programmes, • identify experts to offer continuing education short courses to industry. A proven track record of achievement in the above areas is a must.

Qualifications Required

The ideal candidate should possess the following: • Authentic and well-aligned academic and/ or professional qualifications from approved institutions, preferably to the level of a Doctorate Degree in any one of the disciplines offered by the Faculty. • Be at least at Associate Professor Grade (or have credentials that would qualify the candidate for appointment at that level);

Skills & Competencies

• Demonstrated administrative ability to lead and work in a team. • Interact with Deans of other Faculties in developing collaborative research projects, degree programmes and short courses. • Proven commitment to academic excellence and collaboration across disciplines. • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, academic staff, administrators, senior management and external constituencies. • Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships and garner support from business and community constituencies leading to industrial attachment and employment opportunities for students, as well as business development. • Ability to source external funds for research and commercialisation. • Ability to encourage, initiate and manage change in research, innovation and teaching in a transforming environment.
